Master K, author of the books Shibari and The Beauty of Kinbaku was a kinbaku artist and teacher in Los Angeles. He passed away after experiencing a catastrophic brain injury. He served as a consultant and rigger on a number of movies and music videos and wrote frequently about the history of Japanese rope bondage. He was a certified instructor in Yukimura Ryu and was named as the successor to Urato Hiroshi’s school of kinbaku in 2013.
His work was influential in introducing kinbaku to Western audiences and was widely appreciated as an important work on the cultural history of kinbaku, both in the West and in Japan.
He passed away on January 26th, 2026 at the age of 75.
